TRAINING RIDES

ON THE RIVET VELO CLUB is a cycling club based in Sussex.

CHECK OUT THESE TRAINING RIDES http://ontherivet.ning.com

Our training rides are for EVERYBODY and are usually run on Saturdays starting from Brighton or Worthing with other meeting points set up for members in other parts of the county of Sussex.

The rides start out slow to get a warm up and then speeds up to ride at a steady pace cruising between 16 and 20mph on the flat. This training ride usually averages out at 15mph at the end of the ride but with added sprint points to test upper limits of riders enacted at full on race pace any weaknesses in race speed will be shown.

Riders can either take part in these sprint points or take it easy as the group reforms immediately after each sprint point.

These rides are ideal for faster riders who maybe want a group ride but don't want to go to hard due to racing commitments, or for newbie riders who need more experience of riding in a group. Alternatively these rides give a chance to test upper limits for riders who are looking to get fitter, faster and tougher so they can dish out the pain when racing.

The rides are run by experienced racing cyclists and are organised to be fun as well as functional in getting all members of the ride fitter and experienced in the art of the chain gang.

The nature of these rides are set up to cater for a broad range of fitness levels as a basis if you can ride at 15mph on the flat for an 3hrs on your own you should have no problem with these rides. Cruising speeds will be increased if slower riders can cope with it.
Riders who are strong take more turns at the front while riders who wish to take it easy ride at the back of the bunch.

Parts of the ride will be ridden in chain gang format. Don't worry if you don't know what this means everything will be explained on the day.

We are a friendly bunch and welcome anybody to join these rides.
You are advised to wear a helment and cycling gloves on these rides and have some form of cycling insurance ideally British Cycling or CTC insurance.
if you need any advice on these rides contact Rupert via email otr-vc@virginmedia.com

We look forward to seeing you in the future.
Check out the OTR-VC Forum for further details http://ontherivet.ning.com

Newby here so sorry if I've got the wrong forum - looks to be right to me. A friend and I are cycling to the festival this year. He did it once before but, relying entirely on Michelin , his route was high-traffic and very hilly (he's got no cartilage left in his knees so can't stand on the pedals. So I've come up with what looks like a flattish and not too A-road oriented route, but not knowing much of it myself I'm sure there will be sections where someone with a bit of local knowledge can photoshop out some of the busier roads. Any help gratefully received http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/187191722

I completed my first sportive this year and t £12 I have no complaints. Now I am looking at others to do and notice some are priced much higher at £30 plus, I have read to see what's included and it seems nothing more than I got for the £12 one.

So my question is, what costs are associated with putting on an event, and do the higher priced ones give good value for money?

I understand some are for charity/causes and I don't include them
