I always think an Aluminium Boardman team/ Comp is a great place to start, just avoid Halfords after purchasing the bike.

I have just got my pride and joy back from the LBS after a Warranty check on the bike, (weird Noises coming from the hub - not related to question though so i shall skip over it).
having a unique ability to be able to comment on this, i have ridden all these bikes in the quest to replace my Ribble stealth/R872 after a stupid people carrier ran it over.
Bike had a few problems so i took it back and was given one of these as a replacement. So Christmas came twice for me

it's a great step up isn't it, i miss the flex of the aluminium frame i had, but love the fact i can corner, descend and ascend like a demon now, on my beautiful new Scott Pro.

wuverley is absolutely right all helmets in the UK have to meet certain standards so most are made to fit this standard, though the more you spend the higher above the standard you generally get.
NEG are not allowed to cover non BC races at the moment, but hopefully this petition (signed it already) will be the first step to rectifying this.
pro helmets are significantly more advanced than the general helmets, my race team helmet has kevlar built into it reducing the need for EPS foam and as such is smaller and more pro looking....
