This news story, which appeared today, is sadly out of date. The deadline to sign the petition was 19th June, and the Government have already responded.

How did they respond? Increasing tax on the workers in some other stealthy way and pretend to reduce it on bicycles?

Import duties are set at EU level and until they can agree on all import duties, they can't change one of them. Basically thewy shifted the blame.

Oh that sounds about right, It's the world market to blame about the cost of fuel after all, The 60% tax + vat has nothing to do with it at all, no effect at all, none what so ever and anyone who says otherwise will be taken to the tower and flogged!
The government could take Vat off bikes and parts if they wanted, there should be no vat on helmets anyway since it is safety equiptment. Usual story, they want us to cycle, be environmental, get fit and tax us for the privalage!!

That way they can give more handouts to the thieving bas**rds that steal our bikes on a daily basis. Those scummy s**ts dont pay vat on their purchases so we get raped!

I suppose being screwed against your will is rape, so bigold has a point. He does express it in a rather forceful manner, though.

Err i did tone it down. Several times.Anyone who works and see's their pay disappear to the morally and socially weak (instead of the truely needy)hand over fist should understand. If not they must be clergy!
