Hills never hurt less, you just get faster and suffer for less time, just keep looking for hills to play on.
Weight is the killer, I was 18.5 stone a year ago, now 15 stone, big difference on the hills! looking forward to the last stone to go!

What chainset are you running on your Trek? Double, Compact or Triple? And at the back? Of course practice will make you stronger, but even at 12 and a bit stone I still can't get up some hills without the bike helping out!
Getting some weight off has to help. A good excuse to get out and ride more!
3 months is not a long time. Give it a winter as Fergie said, put in the miles on the hills and you'll notice yourself riding up 'em harder and faster. But they'll still hurt!!
