I believe, Three in a row,
Then he's off to Missouri, great.
And no show at the worlds, supposedly. Oh well, he obviously has late season form and is using it in the Tour of Ireland and The Tour of Missouri. I know some of you think that's a good idea.
But what about Paris-Tours, Lombardy, The Worlds. To me that seems like a waste.

Grrrrrr!!!
Why couldn't you put "Spoiler" in front of your post? I watched the highlights on ITV4 with the sound turned off and my back to the TV so I didn't know the result till Thursday's comic came out

The problem this year with SPOTY is that the cycling vote will be too diluted to get anyone high up in the final standings. I'm a committed Hoyist but the Cavendishtas and Wigginsites will obviously go for their own man. Can't help but think a lot of us would like to get behind Vicky though !

Do you not think he's done enough this year? At 23, and with just a few wins in the bank, I think he could do with a rest. He'll have lots more chances to win Paris Tours (why the hell would he ride Lombardy? Have you seen the profile?), and the worlds can wait for a flat course.

The finish at Lombardy doesn't suit him but he appears to have the form. Paris tours has a better finish for Cav, well an ideal one. The worlds, why not? at 23 he can stop this pointless stuff in Ireland and Missouri, have a couple of weeks off, and come back. I don't get it, has the poor lad worked too hard?
What would/did Merckx do?
What would/did Cipollini or Bettini do?
I don't want to be a prophet of doom, but how many years do you get at this level, not many for most riders.

Cav can't win the World's with the current GB supporting cast. He needs a pan flat course and trade team help.

23 would probably be too young to shoulder the responsibility and pressure that comes with being world road champion. I think the team are being wise to make him give this one a miss.
Apart from the fact that the rainbow jersey is often the kiss of death for the next twelve months.

I'm with James70 on this one. Give Cav a break and let him do what he wants to. Two Giro stages, 4 Tour de France stages, then pissed about by the Beijing fiasco, a change of scenery in Missouri will do him good, then he'll come back refreshed next year.
He's already got the Tour of Britain points jersey in his palmares. And as for the Worlds, I can't imagine for one moment that he's in any mood to represent his country - I think they might need to do a bit of building bridges first!

OK, if you don't think he should ride the worlds, so be it, as for not wanting to represent his country, that's the way Wegelius went. I don't want that for Cav. I don't think Cipo or Merckx were as egocentric, to be frank, although Cav has a streak of that.
If road classics are the way to go, then Paris Tours is one of the biggest, and pissing about in Ireland and Missouri is a waste of time.

I can see what's being said about the cycling vote being split, but Chris Hoy has had so much good, high profile publicity in the press and the TV that I reckon he'll have a decent shout at the award thanks to Joe Public as well as his cycling fans thanks to those three gongs around his neck.
And good on him if he does win as well.

Nice situation that this could be a problem though?
(Sorry didn't mean to turn this into a SPOTY thread, it was just the longest time I could thing of for Smoking Joe to avoid the result)

The swimmer forums are probably having the same discussions about having that cycling bloke about, when we all know that if Hamilton wins the F1, no one else will get a look in anyway. As someone has already said, the BBC will cover themselves by lumping all the Olympians together in the team catagory.

I don't think you can possibly label Cav as egocentric or anything yet. He simply needs a break. We all do sometimes, assuming that we're human not robot. Hopefully he's got a few more years left in him still. Better not to get too burnt out too soon. Isn't that how Boonen's gone off the boil already??
