Saturday 7am and only old warhorse Cacophony at the meeting place, so we were a meagre peloton of two. Loads of pools of water up to the axles, then Burnsall Fell blocked by a fallen tree.
If I can suss it out there will be pics attached
Nope - have to go out now , so will re look at it later.
PS - Nature Watch - A weasel near the Valley of Desolation and a rat near Nesfield.

Upload your pics to online storage (flickr, ISP provided freespace, etc).
Get image URL and use image tags to embed in your post; Code:
[image]http://www.mydomain.co.uk/images/mypics.jpg[/image]
So, something like this;
[image]http://www.thefatcontroller.co.uk/portfolio/albums/userpics/uncle_joes_mint_balls.jpg[/image]
Would show like this;
Ideally, images would be preferred to be no bigger than 600 pixels on the longest edge, so the forum doesn't get bent out of shape.
Any probs, just ask on forum, or PM me.

Nearly a full bottle of Pinot Noir and some cheese on toast, and we now see some snaps taken on my cordless telephone, which incorporates a camera.

PS - You can see Cacophony is now back in the saddle, but he is still holding his bad arm as if he is the love child of Larry Grayson and Russell Harty.
None the less, he was going strongly, staying in the saddle and powering up the climbs.

Now there`s a handsome chap! Look out girls! A superb ride on Sat. Steady, no cars, warm but damp with pleasant company and good conversation covering all topics. Before the tree we cleared a `twig` from the road and as we got to the fallen tree, a car came up behind us. We turned to shrug and be smug at the sad motorist as we disappeared into & through the canopy.
This was a proper bike ride that we all long for. SUBLIME

Yep, I've got two open fires and a rayburn to keep going if I want to stay warm ... still, its cheaper than gas or oil at the moment

Chuck the Rayburn, I did, Get a good multifuel stove, 4 times the heat from the same wood plus logs are 20" long so half the cutting. Best move you will ever make! Full tank of hot water in 25 minutes plus runs 8 radiators! Fit room heater stoves in the rooms with open fires and have a warm winter.

Not if it's an oil fired rayburn.

Glad to see you are out and about again.
Yorkshire's a desolate place though.
Come to Kent, everyone else does, its warm and dry.

Thanks Wuv, we have synchronised our diaries and can manage the weekend of 20th and 21st Sept. We will arrive on the Friday (19th) evening so that we can enjoy a good Kentish ride on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. We are up and out early, and trust you will be coming along as runs leader. Mrs Cid is reasonably easy going, but she needs a beaker on the bedside cabinet and a plastic or rubber undersheet on her side of the bed, but not on my side as it will make me sweat. Might be a good idea to put a pot beside the bed for her as well, as a precautionary measure. BUT not one of Beryl and Nicole's old baby ones, as there would be a tidal wave of overflowage onto your shag pile. Needs to be a proper sized one, we can stick one in the Range Rover if you don't have one. Cacophony's wife, the delightfull Miranda is no trouble. In fact quite the opposite. She is very posh and privately educated so she will fit in well down there. She speaks beautifully, with a plum in her mouth. The only way Mrs Cid can speak with a plum in her mouth is if she takes her teeth out first. Then anything can happen. So might be best not to leave any plums around. We will eat anything, so don't worry about the catering side of things. Best to have plenty of booze in. Vodka Red Bulls are good for Mrs Cid. They will keep her awake. We can sit her on a stiff backed dining chair and she will make amusing (sometimes alarming) comments at random moments. Always good value. Oh, the Cacophonys have a crazy dog. I will try to persuade them not to bring it.
Thanks again, Wuv, it will be great to enjoy your southern hospitality and lets hope we get a bit of an Indian summer to boot. We might even be able to top up our cycling tans. I'm really looking forward to it - see you on the 19th. PM me your address, you don't want just anyone showing up.
tvrbird - blurry - sorry that's my fault, just familiarising myself with the operation of the cordless telephone.

The prospect of yourself and Cacophany turning up on my doorstep fills me with, what is the word.... excitement.
I can think of nothing better than taking the two of you for early morning thrashes down my favourite back ,er, sorry stumbling for words again, roads and byways. The Garden of England is always worth a visit.
I am especially looking forward to meeting Mrs Cid, after hearing so much about her little ways, it will be an honour to meet the lady in person. I'm sure that the specialist equipment can be procured, but I have no idea what a Vodka Red Bull is. I suppose one of the 15 year olds hanging about on the seafront can give me the recipe, I'll ask one later.
Miranda also sounds delightful, there are plenty of plums in Kent, I'll go scrumping tomorrow.
I'm not sure about the dog, we have a very small cat, it would a shame if it disappeared.
The only slight problem might be accomodation. Despite the government handouts I receive, just for having children believe it or not, and my partner's massive salary, housing round here is, or at least used to be expensive. As a result our dwelling is modest and we don't have any spare bedrooms. There is a large waterproof shed, with power, so it wouldn't be too bad. Actually now I think about it, the kids would love to sleep in the shed, what a treat for them!
So barring any unforeseen problems, see you then

And back to the original 'After the Storms'. How do farmers entertain themselves when the fields are waterlogged?? Trim their flamin' hedgerows!!!

Oh dear, looks like I need to start working on my cyclocross technique this winter... I think I carried my bike for about half a mile !

You can sue them for damages if you puncture etc. Its been done.
I once spent a whole day, as a 17 year old, sweeping a road with a brush to remove hedge clippings. It was probably cheaper for the farmer to make me do that than hire a leaf blower, which is how I'd do it nowadays.
I had a similar experience a few weeks ago. I rode down a narrow lane strewn with blackthorn clippings, miles from home thinking I'm going to get loads of punctures any minute, but strangely I didn't.

Thanks Alot Wuv, we are really looking forward to it. A return visit will be arranged and you are welcome to bring along Beryl and Nicole. Plenty of stuff to give them a nice break around here as well as ace cycling for us.
One minor point - Your "High earning partner" - Is this a lady?
Regards
El Cid
