Great ride yesterday, run by Peebles CC. Three rides on offer, 50, 70 and 90miles with a start list limited to 200. Started at 8:30 in the wind and rain with 20miles of mostly flat riding to the first well-stocked feed-stop. The last few miles into Moffat were down the Devils Beeftub and despite a strong crosswind, kept up about 40mph the whole way in. From here the long up-and-down section before the climb of the Grey Mares Tail, battling into the wind the whole way from Moffat at 35miles to the next feed-stop at 55.
The route then turned off for the 90mile to take in a long flatish 20mile route before the hardest cimb of Witchie Knowe before heading back to the previous feed-stop. It was starting to brighten up but the wind was still out in force. After a mile or 2 of climbing it was a good run back to the finish.
A great 90mile run completed in 5:14, riders from all over the country and a useful Lucozade freebies van at the start. All in all a well organised ride! Will be back next year.

nice 1, the run into moffat is cracker although i've only ever done it once, stopped for lunch in moffat then headed off back up the same way, brilliant climb, think it clocked at about 6-7 miles if i remember.
i was away doing the "manchester 100" yesterday and thought i'd do that again but i may well do this one instead if they clash again next year. its a bit closer to home for me too.
sounds like a good, well organised ride which always adds to the enjoyment.

On one of the two occasions I visited north of the border I stayed in a cottage up a long road out of Moffat, right at the base of the Beeftub. Dramatic scenery round there, and one of the reasons why I want to do the SUS09. I can remember running down the steep side of the tub and realising that stopping on scree slopes is not even vaguely possible.
Sounds like a great descent, Cattlegrid. I'm tempted to head up that way later this year or early next, nice as it is round here you do get a wee bit underwhelmed when you ride the same roads time and time again.

Oh Scree surfing, great fun!! Good run Cattlegrid, So you crossed your nemisis safely and in good time, I did think going down the beeftub was a better idea than the way I went at the time and your speed proves this!!
