Greetings one and all, spent a fab day in the leafy Cheshire lanes yesterday. Did the 100 mile route (there's also a 100km option) and just broke 6 hours so quite chuffed. Event was organised by Bike Events and although there's no "free" feedstations there are food stops with sandwiches cakes etc on offer at reasonable cost. Lovely route too with not many hills, just rolling terrain and some excellent chain-gang stretches to really crank the pace up. Weather was so-so with a couple of really heavy downpours but hey ho, it is GB after all. Definately be back next year.

Not sure whether anyone heard about this, but during the event on Sunday my husband was assaulted by junkie looking skinheads in a stolen corsa. It is just fortunate that his instinct was to sit up on his bike as they went for his face with a solid plastic baseball bat. It doesn't appear that they have broken any bones in his arm, but he has a whacking bruise down the whole of his arm and is bandaged and in a sling.
This may be a long shot but if anyone on here saw the people in this car driving like lunatics, or actually saw what happened please could you send me a message or contact Cheshire Police. I believe a press release will be going out calling for witnesses as we will be pressing ahead with assault charges if they are ever caught. The police did have a full reg for the car from someone, but failed to find them.
It is a sick story and they have totally shattered my husband's confidence, as well as probably ruling him out of the Isle of Man end to end race this weekend which we had both looked forward to for a long time. God help the little barstewards if I ever get my hands on them.
Thanks in advance.

That's terrible about the assault :-(
I did the Manchester 100 too but fortunately it was a lot less eventful. A work colleague who also took part did witness a cyclist make off with a handful of Mars bars from one of the feed stations but thankfully nothing along the lines of skinheads.
Hope your husband is back on his bike soon and you manage to find the guys responsible and press charges.
Well done visioninlycra on your time I managed 6hrs 30 :-)

I did the 100 mile ride as well. 6Hrs 20 mins. We had abuse aimed at us on two occasions for no reason what so ever. We seem to be easy targets for complete idiots. We even had a police car pull out on us because he would not wait 5 seconds for us to pass!! If they are not bothered what chance do we have with other road users? Vicky Pendletons article sums up our plight.

emmaavfc, I am sorry to hear about your husband, what an appalling attack, I was about to write incident but that doesn't do it justice. Sorry I can't help in any way, but just wanted to give my support.
I can imagine he was shaken up by that, but I hope he keeps cycling, these things are really rare as you probably know. (That's easy for me to say!)
Good luck to you both, you never know the cops may catch the wrongdoers.

so sorry to hear about this attack. that puts a real dampener on what i'd thought was a decent event. there's an a**hole round every corner it seems, fingers crossed they are caught and dealt with appropriately. and good luck to your husband for a speedy recovery, hope he's back on the bike soon enough.
