Knee/calf pain
      #33893 - 10/09/2008 15:27

About four weeks ago i developed pain behind my knee. It seemed to be the lower part of the knee where the calf meets the knee. It didnt ease so i took two weeks off. However, I could still feel the pain if I had been on my feet all day. It seemed to have eased lately so I have just been for an easy spin and straight away the pain has returned but with other strange sensations from within my knee!! Has any one any ideas??? I have tried lowering my saddle a little which helped for a day or so but then no joy!! Am I doomed?

I was thinking seat height and although you say it helped for a while the damage may have been done and will take a while to mend, look at cleat position also, if you use a cleat with limited float and are not spot on you may suffer pain so try cleats with more float, Look keo do a 9 degree float, others may too. My final idea is the seat position in relation to the bottom bracket, If the seat is too far back you may be extending your leg and putting strain on the knee. I hope something in there helps.

Had something like this couple of years back.Having bother with knees before, went straight to docs. he said it was Bakers cyst, ease off on the cycling, which I did for 2 - 3 weeks(Winter anyhow) easy hill walks and swimming, no problems now .Better to get professional help on this tho' if you can, knees far to precious to ignore!! nothing against anyone elses ideas mind!!

I read somewhere that if you had pain behind the knee to lower the saddle slightly, and pain in the front to raise it slightly.

I had a similar problem a couple of months back and even though I hadn't changed my saddle for a long time lowering it a little helped. I think in my case I may have jarred my knee doing something else and then it wasn't healing as it was stretching every time I peddaled.
