I will be visiting the Uk in October and am interested in renting a road bike to get a couple of rides in to prevent total loss of fitness while away from home. I will be in the Richmond/Hampton area of London and in the bradford area in yorkshire. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If you are willing to travel for an hour or so out of London and can ride on either Sun 5 Oct or Sunday 19 Oct, you could do a lot worse than do an Evans ride www.evanscycles.com/ride-it/
Evans is a chain of bike shops in England. They promote the brand by running road rides on various weekends over the summer. They mark out a route, usually hilly and pretty, and punters turn up and ride - you choose between a 90, 60 or 30 mile route. I've found them to be fun and well organised, and if you turn up alone you can always find someone or a group to ride with if you want.
If you book ahead they will also lend you a road bike, and it's free, although the ride costs £12.
That must be the most cost effective way of "hiring" a bike in the UK and getting a ride thrown in for good measure.

Thanks for the suggestion, They look like great events, but just not on the days I might get a "hall pass" to ride. t
