Italy should still prove to be the team to beat in 2008, even in the absence of reigning champion Marta Bastianelli. Last year's winner still awaits her fate after returning a non-negative doping test in July.

Got this from that link TWA - does anyone know what a 'non-negative' result is, if it's not a fail?

I think a non-negative is the legal arse-covering way of saying a positive before it has been confirmed by the B sample.

"The hot pick would be Swiss Fabian Cancellara, but the winner of the last two world titles and this summer's Olympics justifiably decided to ended his season early and spend time with his family. The absence will allow Australia's Michael Rogers a better chance to make history with a fourth gold medal."

If i understand correctly, Cancellara isn't in it?

You do get to pick two riders for men and women.
If you haven't worked it out yet teach, that makes four
