I've moved to somewhere flat, how can I train for hills?

Where is this cycling Nirvana!!! Try a high gear on a turbo trainer put a block under the front wheel and work hard in and out the saddle in intervals...nothing will replace the real thing though!!

Get an MTB, find a multi-storey carpark and ride up and down the stairs. Just a suggestion.

Get some mdf. Cover your stairs at home. Ride up and down. Take long recoveries. Use biggest gear possible. Another suggestion

find a wet muddy field and ride your road bike back and forth accross it on 18mm tyres!

Bad luck on this turn of events. Not the fens is it?

Wind resistance is supposed to be reasonable practice, though nothing beats the real thing.

This is the East riding of Yorkshire. I was sick and tired of the hills where we used to live and was looking forward to the flatlands but now I find that whenever I do do a ride in a hilly(er) area my legs have lost their hill-climbing prowess. I'll have to stick a bike carrier on the car and drive to the nearest hills to do a ride whenever i can.

Lots of wet, muddy fields here; wouldn't fat tyres offer more resistance or am i supposed to sink into the mud thus making it harder to pedal?

sink sink sink sink!! See how easy it is to peddle when your crank arms ground out!

At least you won't fall over sideways.

chris, i live in the east riding of yorkshire, home of the yorkshire wolds! While the hills may not be huge, they are there, plenty of them and there are loads of quiet roads among them! my advise is head to pocklington and keep going north!

--------------------
I'm not sure you're aware, but that bike isn't going to ride itself up that hill!
