No way back for Vino
      #36645 - 04/10/2008 12:23

After the mess/mistake of signing Basso - there is no way that Johan will repeat that.

At least I really, really hope not.

Just read that banned riders like Vino signed a contract stating they had to pay one years salary back to the UCI if they were caught positive.

If its not paid they are not alowed back. Also you cant re join a pro tour team for another two years after your ban has finished, Im sure I read that somewhere. Perhaps one of the more enlightened forumers can put me straight?

The Pro-tour has died on it's arse so presumably that particular rule has unfortunately died with it.

I just can not see any way at all that Vino, or any team he rode for, be allowed to ride the tour.

Did he ever actually admit his cheating? I missed it if he did.

I'd take issue with the songs part- it implies she/he/it can sing !!

If he's done his time, why not? A fine rider.

Armstrong, Contador, Vinokourov, Kloden, what a dream team.

Personally, I was a big fan of Vino with a strong belief in him, so unlike all the 'others', his downfall really hurt. For this reason I would have preferred it if he had stayed away. I suppose it might be because I couldn't really give a toss about what happens to all the others, but there are still too many feelings about Vino. Hard to explain really.

I think that's why people hated him for blood doping, he was the new exciting upcoming rider, with the potential to be an Armstrong or even more.

That's the thing about having athletes as heroes, they're not really. Just people doing their best, possibly even cheating to be better.

{Controversially} Its the same with soldiers killed in Afghanistan or Iraq, most are not heroes, they're just there doing the job that they're meant to do. To be a hero you need to go beyond what most people can face, and that rarely applies to sportspeople, either.

All heroes have feet of clay.

Sorry for the gloomy post.

hes only done his time because he pretended, after being caught as a colossal cheat, that he was going to retire, resulting in what was seen as a desultory 1 year ban by the Kazakh authorities instead of anything harsher;just another lie from Vino.He shouldnt be allowed back in the sport ever and any team that signs him should be banned permenantly.

Vinokourov may run into some obstacles to his planned return. UCI president Pat McQuaid said the rider would have to complete a two-year suspension. "There is no way he comes back until he agrees on the two-year suspension," McQuaid told Reuters on Saturday. "The UCI had a case pending with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which we only withdrew because he announced he was retiring."

Wuverley, Im disappointed in you.
Lets face it Vino cheated, hoped he would get away with it, but got caught. Like the rest of the proven cheats if he hadnt been caught he would still be cheating, and geting big fat contracts on the back of that cheating that should have gone to someone else.
Its about time the rest of the world caught up with the French and introduced the charge of sporting fraud, with fines and custodial sentences, then the cheats might think twice.

even if he has to complete a 2 year suspension id like to see any team that signs him not getting invites to the likes of TDF,giro, vuelta etc;he may be the big sporting hero in his homeland but im sure his team would get bored of the continued cold shoulder pretty quick.
if he is allowed to race again then everything cycling has been trying to achieve in the last few years will have been for nothing and it will fully deserve to be known as the domain of cheats.
