the cycle show
      #37291 - 11/10/2008 21:46

i ventured off to earls court this morning and to the cycle show 08 -i had no1 in tow but i was a bit left down by the cycling weekly stall-- the mag could have made a bit of an effort..while we got a free magazine where was the coffee, the staff or even someone at all?
ok i was drolling over some of the bike porn, cant afford most of it or even a wheel(not allowed) the whole show from a roads mans point of view was a bit disapointing.the cousins in mountain bike and commuting seem to have a better repepersentation over all ....

i wonder if any one else was there and what did they think ?
bmc and bh bikes(nice,nice,nice)

I noticed some decent looking Raleighs in the homepage pics, did you get a look at them?

i was saying to mrs o7 earlier on that i thought the raleigh stand was on of the better ones - a much undervalved brand when it comes to road bikes in the northern hemisphere - i spend time in south africa and they remain popular there

I'm glad I wasn't the only one disappointed.
Every turn I made I seemed to be faced by mountain bikes or £3k+ road bikes
Can't see me attending another

I was there on Sunday, similarly, some things quite interesting - Colagno Ferrari mmmmmm - some surprising or disappointing:
Trek didn't have a single road bike on their stand - passed it three times without noticing it.
Huge emphasis on MTB on stage and off
No sign of many cycling media types - and even the CW stand empty by the time I got there
Comparatively little on non-clothing accessories
Poor stand from TOB / sweetspot, no mention of the new Crits competition
The Super-record I tried crunched horribly
No chance to win Tom Boonens bike

I was there on the trade day through work, 1st time for me so i'm an unknown face, but i'll tell you what i thought... i thought that the majority of the staff manning the stands couldn't be arsed! it was very clique' people were reluctant to talk the talk, and on more than a few times when i was in conversation with a stand holder as soon as they saw someone they recognised they litraly walked away mid conversation. i must add i'm not a boring techy, or a geek, neither do i spit, or dribble when i talk, these people were just plain rude! (shame on you!!!) other than that yes the guys at raleigh and their stand was good, as was the fellow from jelly beans, the guys on the Shimano stand(obviuosly ) I tried the new electronic groupset wow!. Yes the bikes on show were outstanding, but the hospitality was worse than poor, may not bother again!
