Information appeal for ill cyclist
      #37731 - 16/10/2008 16:22

I am appealing to all readers of cycling weekly who keep back issues to help me find the right issue where a photo appeared of my husband.
I want to find it because I am compiling a scrapbook of his achievements. He has completed many cycling events over the years and even arranged a small charity ride where he and friends raised money for a local hospital. Now he is himself ill and sufforing from ulcerative colitis and that's why I am making him a scrapbook.
I believe it could have been issue 21 Nov 2006. It was a close up photo of my husband and his brother cycling next to each other in waterproofs and the caption read something like "Duking it out old fashional style" I suspect that it was the Etape du Dales ride that look place in May 2006 but was not reported on in the magazine until later that year. If it was not that race it could have been the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride (Wetherby to Filey) in 2007. I only know that it was a race that rained so heavily that many racers either didn't turn up or did not manage to finish. My husband did finish but he said he likes the pain - I'm sure you all understand that better than me!!?
I hope there is someone out there who has the issue and can spot the photo I'm on about and can tell me for definate which one to buy from bck issues.
Here's hoping, thanks in advance

I have a copy of the mag issue 12 Ocober 2006.

The cation reads "duking it out in traditional style"

Two cyclists, one in red the other in yellow.

It's the Etape du Dales: Shire Hell article.

Can scan the page and send if you wish.

Wow, that's the one, Paul would be the one in yellow! That would be amazing, if you would be prepared to scan it for me like you say, please would you sent it to my email address gpelec@btconnect.com? Thanks so much.

Thanks slowhand but it is an ongoing condition which comes and goes. He doesn't do races any more but he still cycles 20 miles a day to work and back! I say he's running himself into the ground but he says if he gives up the cycling then he's finnished. He can deal with the symtems of his problem but it gets him down and why I want to make the scrapbook to chear him up. It's great that people on this forum are willing to help me and give words of encouragement, thanks.

I'm off to a quiz tonight in aid of Crohn's and Colitis with a friend who suffers. Wish your husband well - some people swear by Aloe Vera and I've got a book out of the library on it at the moment. If there's anything useful in it. I'll pass it on.

Thanks for the tips, there's a lot of homeopathic remedies out there but he's not into trying them, just getting him to have vitamins is bad enough!

A huge THANK YOU to Doug for sending me the pages of the issue of Cycling Weekly that I requested. I have re-read the article (Etape du Dales:Shire hell 2006 was a pretty nasty ride)and it again proves to me that my husband is either mad or my hero!

Can't he be both?
