These men are far too skinny for my liking. I reckon they should have to go on a beer and curry night sat eve, then have a fry up sun am then eat a roast and the second they down the last glass of port and whipe the residue of stilton from the corner of their mouths i would race them having gone through the same ordeal. I would be pretty confident of a win!!!!!!

Dave Clarke will win this year Dobs will have to settle for 2nd place. Clarke is a pretty decent rider with some very good results. Its interesting that you never see his picture in the mags and he still hasn't been offered a place with any team or GB. Nothing to do with his etnic origins I'm sure Never heard of him prior to buying one of his old Alsys framesets

Anyone going to watch? There might be a fat old man on an Edison 953 somewhere around. To stay on topic I'll pick Dobbin.

That's Riber, the Nationals are up Bank Road on the 26th. Riber's a real pig though, I'd sooner tackle this years Nationals course.

I won my last National Hill Climb title on Riber in 87. Its a very technicaly demanding hill, the lower part requiring great care in pacing and gear choice before the steep narrow part where a flufed gear change or sitting down could lose lots of time. I chose to ride within my limits from the start to the top of the steep section, figuring that due to its technical challenges geting them right was gonna be more important than gaining a big lead at half way. From that point to the left hand turn into the castle it was as big a gear as I could get rnd, 53X13 at one point before flicking to the little ring for the final left hander into the castle which is a nasty little finish. Time checks confirmed that from aprroximatly leval peging at the steep first summit I gained my lead predomininatly on the flat, even slightly downhill section before the final turn. A hill climb title won downhill!

No. Its not till after the line I knew the result. In my mind I knew how to win it but then ya have to do it!. I`d surveyed the hill earlier in the week and planned my method and gone throught it in slow motion..its then a case of playing the tape back at full speed, while not be distracted by nerves, spectators or effort. The time checks were official checks posted on the result board. I had no orgainised pesonal checks and wouldnt have wanted the distraction. This was a very dificult time as my brother was at the time in a Coma in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Nottingham after being knocked of by a drunk driver.

It seems like I win, no cheating honest. But unfortunately there are no prizes except pride. Well done everyone, and well done to the racers.
