Rumours seem to be its from Montmeliar via Bedoin to the summit of Ventoux - Anyone slain the beast of Ventoux?
I've got a pre-entry, should I cash in my chips now or get the training programme started??
Anyone done this before, I'm a L'etape virgin - for now!

I haven't done it, but its just a hill, sort of, plenty of people have. If the weathers good, then you're ok...

Just a hill.... Jeez that will help my state of mind! It's 'only' 21km long, climbing to 2000m apparently. True though bud, I won't be the first to grovel on it!
Bfergie - I like your style bud! Made me cackle in a Sid James carry on style, heh, heh, heh!!!
That image will be a great motivator, I'll print it out and tape it up in front of the turbo!

My first ride last year was half-way up on the 12th July. Up to the memorial on the 13th. I've done it a lot on my Fortius this year though.

I rode the Dauphinie Libre in 89 up th "sheltered" side of Mnt Ventoux. Its long but not terribly steep. I summited alone, as many of us did and regrouped on the descent. The group I was with contained Kelly and Early, who I`d past on the ascent....scared me shitless on the way down. If you do it just find your pace in the first couple of kilometer`s and resist the urge to "attack" it...you`l probably find riders who left you early on it come back as you get further up...Good Luck.

Swearing is not big and clever, even in French.
I knew I'd wind someone up with that remark...

Took me nearly 2 hours of suffering this summer from the other side. If the mistral blows it will be a real epic! Guppy

Shouldn't that be "Tu fous"? Je fous, il fout, tu fous, vous foutez...etc.

I was just trying to be big and (too) clever.

Thank you for the grammatical correction-picked up my french in the peloton and there wasn't any time to conjugate.
I don't see the point of posting sardonic comments when someone is genuinely looking for information. That was my point.
In answer to the original post the ascent by Bedoin has about a 6km false flat before it goes up into the trees. In contrast the ascent by Malaucene has a steep opening after Grozeau. There are several ex-pros in the area still riding and a strong sportive team based at Bedoin who are likely to make there presence felt on the mountain...

It's nasty, make no mistake. Last time I rode it I felt bad even on the false flat out of Bedoin. Once the climb really starts, it's relentless up through the trees. There's about 200 metres of less steep road at Chalet Reynard, and then it's up and up all the way. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the top - demoralising. On a misty day, the wind tries to blow you back down the mountain.
