velodrome racing
      #38034 - 19/10/2008 21:50

Hi guys.
just gave this a go for the first time today and entered the service track championship never having ridden a velodrome before. Bloody hell that track at Calshot is steep!!! Handling can be 'interesting'. Think there was 24 riders. My team of four took gold medals overall, i took bronze medal in the overall mens sprint competition, bronze in the devil takes the hindmost plus fourth in the endurance race. What a great crack! Some horrible crashes but its such a rush. Reckn i could do better on a bike not designed for a pixie - definately gona do that again.

It's not just steep, but a very tight track (140 metres). And apparently sessions are sometimes cancelled because of condensation dripping onto the track surface! But riding it does give you a buzz, doesn't it?

Calshot is a big test for a newbie track rider, steep and tight, talk about jump in at the deep end! Well done you!

After you get used to leaning in hard on the bottom turn and trying not to ground out on the upper red line its great fun! Many fell just not the big old side of ham! Many thanks for your support
