what do you think of the tour route?
      #38205 - 22/10/2008 14:50

Nice little twist in the tail Looks like we won't know the winner until penultimate day.
Looks like the oragnisers want to put pressure on the favorites from the begining with 15km TT and TTT in the first week could be a long 3 weeks for the favorites team if they take the jersey early could be defending it all the way. I think that's the idea of the route but I can see the peloton letting a break go on first few stages with 20min lead then whittle away at it over the next 2 weeks.
Not much in for Cav though.

Doesn't suit Cav at all, but Contador must be delighted - I suspect that we'll get the reverse of the usual tour with the sprint all contested the first week and breaks in the second and third - It is hard to see where the sprinters will let a break go, to be honest.

Which in my book is a good thing. Should lead to a real nailbiter final Saturday!

It seems hilly to me, though the home page says there are some flat stages.

Might make an odd race, but I expect a favourite will win nonetheless.

Looks good, not one for Cadel Evans...ah shame !! It really will be an Astana Vs CSC tour, With so little time trialing and most of that a team TT Valverde could even be up there IF he doesn't blow up on the climbs next year, Andy Schleck could be the biggest threat to Contador if CSC take the team TT! Oh should be fun.

True enough, I would like to see Basso in that mix but I didn't think he would be there!

It is an interesting one, the tour seems to be getting more interesting every year. Is there a similar climb to Super besse at the end of the first week?

Andy Schleck could be the outside bet.

If he had not been working for Sastre this year, and had that one bad day, he looked awesome in the mountains.

With CSC working for him he could be on the podium.

I like the route though, looks exciting.

There is one small problem with the route. Lance likes it.

What else would he say?

He's a bit concerned that Astana might not be welcome, so he's doing his best to be friendly to ASO, without annoying or overwhelming them, hence the non appearance at the Route Presentation.

Of course that assumes ASO invited him to the presentation...

Maybe they didn't specifically invite him?

I reckon he'll be there in Monaco after winning the Giro, but time will tell.

It would seem that the brown nosed press are only interested in know what their darling Armstrong thinks of the 2009 TdF.

Who's asking the team managers or any riders from this years race?

I can imagine what Cav said when he saw those hills starting on stage 7...

There seems to be an assumption that Armstrong is going to win any of thess big tours he takes part in.I,m curious to know why this is so,as next year he'll be 38 and has been out of top leval competition for 3 years.
I feel he's going to get a big suprise.

Also I think he's keen to make his comeback at the Tour Down Under. It's not such a difficult event, the top riders who bother to ride it will only be doing so for training. LA will probably aim to win it, so as to make it look good for him .
If he for instance does win the Giro/Tour it wont say much about the present generation of riders.

I thinks that it is a slightly foolish thing to say, we have all seen how methodical his preparation was in the past and I reckon it will be no different this time.

with the TT and the TTT in the first week, christian vande velde could take the jersey early on, with a couple of minutes lead , and as long as if he is on good form take it through the mountains and win comfortably, remember this year that he only majorly lost time in the 2nd day in the alps, and that was only 2 minutes, and now with dan martin maturing for next year he has some support

CVV to win!

I'd love it, just love it, if Armstrong got beaten by Vande Velde. I also hope he gets beaten by Contador, Schleck jr and Evans.

He can beat Leipheimer all he wants, though, the baldy miserable git.

If Astana are there, and Armstrong's riding, he'll win.

Im with Eric09 on this one. Lance would not be coming back if his power and VO2 max figures were not up to scratch.

Look at the hype around his proposed hour record attempt. He must have looked at what it would take and finaly thought better of it. He had built up this aura of invincibility and did not want it denting by failing at the hour attempt.
