I noticed Pendleton, Pooley, Cooke and Laws scrubbed up quite nice for the BC awards. And the blokes.
http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/Brit...cle_270786.html
And the Braveheart Fund had their dinner recently. I assume the Dave Rayner Fund and the CTT will be having awards and galas etc soon.
Has anyone ever been to one of these things? Any good?
For that matter do clubs have end of season do's? I assume some do, but I've never really been a club man, despite belonging to one for a while. I used to go to end of season Rugby club dinners, which could be disastrous or riotous, in my experience. What are cycling club parties like? Any stories?

Geez! Looks like the recession hasn't hit sales of hair gel yet!!
Do the pros use a special solvent for the removal of congealed hair gel from the inside of helmets?? I've often wondered about that...

Cycling dinner and presentations are generaly fairly conservative affairs wuv..at least the 100 or so ive bin to! Not sure if they`ve stoped it but there was a tradition of cross toasting during the meal at the RTTC national dinner but I seem to recall it became somthing of an exscuse to throw tounge in cheek insults around , often very funny. I think it got stopped cus of this by the stuffy brigade. My exspieriance was that good guest speekers helped make a good evening. Appoligies to anyone who had to sit through any of mine...good they were not! The funniest one I ever heard was a a former Chief Constable of Manchester, can`t recal his name but a very contraversial figure. Hillareous story teller. As for the dance part...aint all cyclist`s got two left feet?

Funny you should say that fergie...ive been several times and twice when its bin very, very muddy, and there the ones with best memories!. Radioheads 97 performance , (often voted best gig ever in the mags that do that sort of thing) being a hi light. While they were playing we could see a fire burning elswere on the festival ground with fire brigade in attendance. Our plan had bin to go and enjoy a jacusi bath after Radiohead had finished....well around two hours later after struggling through the mud and crowds we got to the site of the baths..turned out that was the fire and the place was burnt down...doh!

Deviate, why not, cycling parties are apparently dull. I might have guessed as much!

It was a very strange evening. As people whose sole contact is the club run, we only really felt comfortable conversing when side by side, looking straight ahead. Eye-contact was rare. I generally identify people by what they ride so there was a lot of careful questioning about recent bike upgrades etc in order to work out who I was talking to. The dinner and presentations were all pretty civilized, but then a group of us decided competitive Sambuca drinking was a good idea. Then the wheels fell off. Can't remember getting home, and stayed in bed until 6.30 the next evening. The club run on Sunday was a hotbed of gossip and innuendo. Looking forward to next year already!

Never mind, I've read your columns in the comic. I got the impression you like a booze up, er.. sorry, good night out.
Dazzricles, I've heard you can be entertaining as well.
As for tvrbird, I'm glad you're back with us, I was a bit concerned you might be locked in a shed in south west Scotland, just joking. Sambuca is a fine drink..
