Great retailers
      #38546 - 29/10/2008 20:17

Following on from BOSH, how about anyone who can tell us about some great bike shops?
Certini in Cornwall, nothing is too much for them, always had great service over several years!
Merlin Cycles for cheap stuff (MTB/ROAD)that ALWAYS arrives on time - just for those mail order bargains!

Stan Jones in Shrewsbury!! Just a small shop but with stuff piled up on the floor and dangling from the ceiling it's got everything you could possibly wish for!! Even the occasional wimmin's stuff!

And really friendly service too, especially for folks like me who don't know what they're talking about and so when you say you need a wotsit for a thingammijig they'll say " aha - what you mean is an oojimaflip" and hey presto they're always right!!

Best local bike shop - Spokes. St Andrews, Kirkcaldy and Dundee. Run by cyclists, brilliant for quality service, advice and a great wheel builder. Good selection of brands, and willing to listen to haggling!

Best online - totalcycling.com. Rapid service and first class communication.

Ribble (Preston...) the shop though..not had anything from the mailorder dept which is at a different place,so can't comment on them.

I like the fact that they do the on-line prices in the shop and they're always friendly and you don't feel that after you've parted with your cash they'd like to see the back of you.. i have had this at other cycle shops.

Gear bikes glasgow, excellent fast servicing, not much in the way of products but good mechanics.

Edinburgh bike coop (edinburgh) a shop to walk round leaving a trail of drool... and they discovered the appearance of an extra link stopping my cassette locking.

chainreactions - good, cheap and fast.

prendas - some nice (and unusual) stuff, not always best price but good delivery and customer service.

evans (online)- usually decent price online, expensive delivery, impossible to get a hold of "customer support".
(shop) staff don't always know what they are talking about, more expensive instore and not always very cheap, good selection though.

Edit: oh, and the bike shop in portree on skye that unbuckled my wheel FOC. can't remember the name but it was in the main carpark, up a non-cleat-friendly steep slope.

Brian Rourkes ( don't know if it's Burslem or Cobridge ) not really brought much from there but the best staff I've ever come across in any shop wether just a chat or advise and as for Brian Rourke a true gentleman so helpful and so giving with his time.
Everyone should go at least once.

My LBS! Noel Craft Cycles in Boston. Managed and run by Scott, who is full of help and advice. Nothing is too much trouble and will tinker with my bike for free! Great range of bikes, equipment and clothing. I often just pop in for a 'quick' chat and emerge 1-2 hours later after buying something!!

The only thing I don't like about Scott is that he thrashes me on the hills!!!

Spa Cycles in Harrogate, Bike Plus in Croydon, or for a local 1 man shop/framebuilder Edison in Clowne, N. Derbys.
Recommendations from me don't come cheap, when crossed I don't take prisoners!

My heart belongs to Beeline Cycles in Oxford. They have helped me out on countless occasions, and they don't laugh at me [to my face, anyway] when I ask stupid questions. And they fix/lend/recommend/'find spare' stuff...and gossip. In fact it's more like a social club than a shop. You don't get that online.
