thinking of doing this ride next year, probably around may, we are hoping to ride to whitehaven from sunderland,stay overnite then return to sunderland next day,any tips/advice would be most welcome.

Did Whitehaven to Tynemouth on the road route coast to coast during the foot and mouth outbreak, It got me into road cycling.
Its a great ride, but the view we got from the top of Heartside, looking back over Cumbria, was like a war zone with all the smoke palls from the animal pyres.
