a little accident - glad my head is still there...

as i was feeling a little smug with myself and with my first cleats doing well( yes i have now converted)- i decided to take a short cut home when i nearly ended up headless...
low and behold wasnt there a metal bar across a sidegate- where previous there was an opening...i just wraped myself around it and got some bruising for my troubles! so you could say it was my first accident in a while...
and i cant blame the cleats(wonderful to use)
hope all are on their bikes this weekend- will get out on sunday

OW!

I'm glad you survived it. Sounds nasty.

Glad you're ok.

Shortcuts and clipless pedals, um..

I used to ride to work, some time ago. At the end of the dead end road, near my house, there was a footpath which crossed a busy main road via a traffic island. It was my usual practice to ride along the few yards of path, roll across one lane of traffic, stop in the middle to wait for a gap, and then join the main road at this point, turning right. This worked fine until..

I got some clipless pedals, and had ridden in them for a few miles. However on that Monday morning, I rode down the road, rolled along the path, crossed the first lane of traffic without stopping and then had to stop because cars were thundering along the next lane. My unclipping proceedure wasn't good enough so I stopped and just slowly fell over sideways into the keep left sign next to me. Luckily I just looked stupid, but wasn't killed.

I dont think I've ever made that mistake again

First time i went out with my local club made a total ass of myself. We had a nice easy spin down to the local cafe in Betws y Coed for a brew and a cake - came out and clipped into my nice new pedals on my nice new bike and just as i dropped my front wheel off the pavement outside the cafe (on a bank holiday Saturday so one or two people were around) my front wheel dropped straight into the slats of a grid and locked solid whilst my momentum carried the rear of my bike vertical as i went completely arse over tit at the slowest speed imaginable! No major injuries other than to my pride but christ did i feel a complete tw*t!!

When I first started using cleats I found that I could clip out fine and stop when required... unless there was someone around to see me topple over sideways!!
