Anyone get numb toes, numb lower legs in bed
      #38714 - 01/11/2008 20:00

Over the last few year I started with numb toes in my R foot at night in bed, It has progressed to getting to be a sense of numbness up to my knee (calf esp.) in the r leg - anyone else experience this - worried I might be getting some serious illness like Motor Neurone or Dystrophy - imagination runs wild.

May I suggest with your occupation down as Care work / Teaching / Research etc etc etc there must be a better and more scientific way to find out what's going on with yourself than asking a bunch of cyclists unless you suspect cycling is the cause of the problems but then simply stopping cycling would eliminate that factor!! Also seeing as this has been going "Over the last few year" I would have had it checked out long before now and got an answer from someone who can actually see the foot/leg in question and give a proper diagnosis!!! Motor Neurone disease you either have it or not and half of those with it are dead within 5 years of symptoms appearing, it's not a case of "getting" it!!! As for muscular Dystrophy it is a genetic illness..any cases in family history??? and a muscle biopsy can confirm this or not!
Without sounding too harsh here can I suggest you take a note of all the symptoms you have, get to a doctor, let them poke and prod you, drain blood, urine samples, whatever they do and get yourself sorted or discharged with a clean bill of health.
I know some on the forum will not entertain the medical profession but no one here can help with these issues IF they turn out to be so serious, IF there is a problem it's your choice whether to get traditional" or "alternative" therapies!
Just read your other post...if you think there is something up with your lower leg why the hell would you consider flying to Palma (deep vain thrombosis???)!!! With these concerns your holiday insurance is worth nothing since you have already posted concerns on a public and open forum on the web, get checked BEFORE you go anywhere!!
On a lighter note most numbness felt in bed is a terrible thing called marriage!!!!

As bfergie says, get along to the docs and get it checked out. It's probably nothing too serious and could even be down to a duff mattress. It ain't worth worrying about unduly until you see the doctor.

And definitely don't type 'numb legs illness' into Google.

Flippin heck! Feel like I've been made to feel as if I have trespassed again here. I thought the lounge was where you could come and sit down in a big armchair and share a worry or concern with a fellow cyclist, without judgement or criticism. I feel like I've been made to feel like I have committed a grave error in doing so. bfergie - I note your comments and policing of the lounge. All apologies to you as door-keeper if I have offended you. I don't think I've invalidated my travel insurance as none of you know who the hell I am. I have discussed my health issues with my GP but I am not sure we are to the bottom of things. Thought I'd throw the net wider and ask if other cyclists had experienced the same. The GP has given me his current advice, which I follow, but which I do not think you will welcome me to share here.

Would still be grateful to hear if there are any other sufferer's

Grateful - are you sure?
Bfergie has gone out of his way to address your problem and all you can do is moan about it. One of his remarks could actually save your life.

Its just a forum, maybe scouser just wants to write down his health issues... and make himself feel abit better/reassured... its not really very good for us to be judgemental!
Having said all that... your obviously not happy with your gp s answer, get another (medical) opinion and get your self sorted

Scouser, say what you want, post what you want, but bfergie has just said sensible stuff.

You seem to have several health issues which are ongoing, some, forum members may be able to help with, some, are perhaps more complicated and need decent medical advice.

I understand that you may well have sought medical advice and its been inadequate, but on this forum we're mostly cyclists, who are mostly healthy, so can only offer advice in our experience, not stuff that needs a few years medical training.

By all means ask, but don't expect answers you like, its just a website forum after all.

You are all very nice, understanding, diplomatic and politically correct people - Chapeau to you all.

Come on Scouser, pull yourself together, man. You will be telling us that your doctor bullies you next, just like your boss at work. Have you found somebody to go cycling with yet?

The only numb parts of me are around the knees where the ops. were (hate them being touched, unless it's not the wife! ) any other things out of norm. I'm straight of to the Doc or better still we have a walk in clinic here, you go in before 2:00pm sit and wait your turn and will be seen by a well built nurse!!!!

common guys chill.
Scouser is right . This is a community of like minded peeps where you should be able to relax amongst mates and talk about stuff over a virtual beer or two. You don't come here to get lectured or told off.:(

Last year I noticed that the toes of my right foot were going numb and I assumed it was down to ill-fitting shoes. As I had piled weight on and my feet were retaining fluid.
I bought a couple of pairs of new shoes on the net and there was not a lot of improvement.

I don't know what is causing it but I wouldn't waste my time going to a quack for it. It took 3 years and a change of surgery and 3x quacks before I could get them to send me for an MRI scan on my back and some days I couldn't even stand up !bl***y waste of time quacks are

I remember reading that the toes on the right foot are the first things to go numb if circulation is poor, for whatever reason. This is because they are the furthest from the heart.
Trouble is, this is the kind of amateur, unsubstantiated diagnosis that Scouser doesn't need.
