When is it?

Is it expensive?

Ashdown Forest?

I am reluctant to spend money I haven't got, to ride a bike, but after hearing all the positive stuff about sportives, I am tempted. Though I suppose I could do the route next Saturday.

For nothing

Is it on cyclosport?

I did it last year, and expect to do it again this year. It is a tough ride, and worth doing. It's run by my former club, and has evolved from their reliability trial.

I've entered. Did it last year and it's definitely a challenge for us Southern softies.... It's not expensive for a sportive (£15), and was well run last year over a great route. This year they've addressed lots of the little niggles people had last year with a new HQ, chip timing etc so if it's sunny I expect it'll be even better....

I'll be there as well. I noticed there are a few VC Deal men, Patch, is one of them you?

I've got a fairly late start time, 5 minutes after Messrs Birnie, Pickering and Cleverly from the comic. I suppose if I start fast, then I might be able to catch Lionel and harangue him about the Wednesday Comments. Not deliberate timing I promise.

As long as its not snowing, I have joined the sportive movement, lets hope its a good as everyone says.

How much did it cost as a reliability trial tonybv? I bet it wasn't £15

Last time I rode it cost £5, and you got a hot pasta meal at the end.

Cheers bfergie, I will pace myself carefully, no worries, I've done 70 hilly miles on reliability trials in the past ( a long time ago), the first time after a very heavy nights drinking, I can remember the pain. The next time I was more sensible.

The main reason I've entered this is to make me keep going out over the next 3 months.

Thanks tonybv, are you riding?

Yes, I expect to be there. I'll look out for your Lemond frame.
Last year it was nothing like an old style reliability trial, and more like an early season road race. Everyone else seemed to be on their best bike, and really fit.
The extra little hill just after the new start is a bas###d - short but very steep. I ride past the top of it regularly, and get vertigo just looking down.

Sounds good. I doubt I'll be really fit, but I'll be on my best bike, no worries.

Tis the only one I've got.

there seems to be a forum gang going for the " HELL " - i wonder if the comic lads should give a free shirt maybe ....we can only ask...

have to get into some serious training i think...might have to have a sneakly recce of the first few miles ....

bike is coming out of the shop on sat morning...only more damage than expected on it

more hills,hills and damn hills

I've read your reports, you'll be home long before me, unless you're taking photos.

Which I wouldn't dream of sneaking in on.

Yes daveno7, training will be necessary, I feel, in my case at least. I hope you and your bike's fine.
