Does anyone have any ideas as to why I'm getting pins and needles in my hands? Can't seem to get my hands comfy, after a short while I'm having to change their position due to the pins and needles. Quite frustrating to say the least!

I think it can be caused by pressure on the nerves in the hand or restricting circulation...If you only use one layer of bar tape try adding another or better still the Specialized Phat bar tape with 4.5mm silicone gel implants eh I mean inserts!! Sorry mind is wandering today...These things...I think they are great! http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=3824
Fizik make a similar thing too.

Usually caused by trapping the ulnar nerve, if you notice that it starts in your little finger first then this is probably the cause. Try and find a position where your wrists can stay reasonably straight as this usually helps. I've never had a problem on a road bike but occasionally get it when riding on an mtb. Here's a quick link Ive just found that might help explain. http://www.hughston.com/hha/a_15_3_2.htm

Hate to admit it, but I would need the 'particularly good for female hands' size

Can we ask if this problem has just started? If so what has changed - bar/bike/seated position/gloves/ injured another part of the body/increased mileage?

If your saddle is not level, and tips down at the front, it puts more pressure on the hands. This can result in pins and needles. Check your position before anything else.

yes this is key to comfort. Even with good gel mitts and bar tape I can get some numbness but I try to remember as I ride to bend my arms slightly and keep a firm but essentially loose grip on the bars. I only get a problem when I keep my arms straight and lean all my upper body weight on the bars to compensate for poor abdominal muscles (core muscles)

Bars too low or tilted too far forward can be another cause. It's usually down to position in one way or another. Gel in the mitts and/or under the bar tape is helpful but sorting the bike out is the ultimate cure.

Yes hubbub, after changing my bars this spring, I decided to tilt the brake hoods more upward in the modern style, and the bars were also slightly wider(they weren't meant to be but they turned out to be), and since then I have had no numbness in my hands. It was never a big problem but occured occasionally, now it doesn't.
Which is good.
