Guys i have just finished prepping my race machine for a real push for points in my second year of actual licenced racing. Looking at my now 4 year old Scott CR1 pro ive realised that its a bit like triggers broom! I always expected it with old bikes but i somehow had bought into the crap that carbon would be useless within 5 years of hard use - nonsense! Rides fantastically but not much CR1 left! Thought id share the birthing of the new bike with you guys. The heart is still a fantstic CR1 frame and forks in black and white livery. Upgrades = 1) Ti specialized Alias 143 saddle in white with carbon trim 2) Pro Vibe mono carbon seatpost 3) Hope red anodised alu seat clamp 4) Specialized rib cages x 2 5) Hope Alu cage bolts in red 6) Hope headset spacers in red 7) Spec geometry bar tape 8) Black XTR teflon coated brake and gear cable set 9) Deda Newton o/s anotomical bar 10)Deda Newton 0/s stem 11)Kool stop 'wet' brake pads 12)A2Z super lightweight red anodized skewers 13)Look keo pedals 14)Conti 4000s tyres 15)Conti lightweight tubes 16)Handbuilt wheels 36 rear 28 front. Hope pro 3 red anodized hubs, black double butted sapin spokes, red anodized alu lightweight nipples with black open pro rims. 17) Shimano dura Ace chain and cassette 18) Hope ceramic red anodized bottom bracket.
Having just ridden it for the first time with the new BB, wheelset and saddle i can say it is absolute lightening fast! Acceleration is now phenominal. Overall its 1.1 kgs lighter than it was when i bought it (plus of course i am 23.5 kgs lighter) Now i just have a 4 month wait until the first hooter goes off, arse!!!!

Nice one BOSH. Its a long time since I bought a fully built bike. No one makes my ideal mount. But Its surprising how much my own builds morphe over the years. A little, seemingly to me, inexpensive tweak here and there can, on reflection, and up to a very expensive evolution of the original. Still, like Triggers broom, I can claim to the missus "Its the same old bike" Tee Hee.

True! You make a valid poit though. Being anything but average in proportions i probably couldnt buy a bike that would work for me from the peg.

Nice choice of kit Bigold...I can't fault your taste. Deda bars, Look keo pedals, conti 4000s tyres are lovely, I can't fault them one bit, Dura ace cassette, all lovely stuff. Did you get the conti supersonic tubes..very light! No matter if you could get everything on the bike from new it's nice to do the work yourself and feel the benifit of your efforts..go on, we need a photo in the bike hall of fame/DIY thread!

What do you think of Hope Ceramic B/B?
I also have two sets of Hope/mavic wheels and find them v.v.good, although have just had 6 months on Dura ace which are lighter and also v.good.
As soon as you get to the arse end of spring , swap the Contis for a pair of Veloflex Pave, failing that Vittoria open CX - you wont regret it, Bigold, its a different sensation.

BB seems realy smooth, obviously cant be sure until ive given it some real welly!. Will try the tyres fella when these begin to wear. The new Hope 3's are 26gms lighter the pair than dura ace 7800! (they shaved a bit of the hope pro 2 hubs). Im a tecno tit but will try to add a photo or two.

Not so much back issues whilst im spending a fortune on treatment and managing it every day. 35.5" inside leg and short body plus the love of a compact frame produces that weird shape.

Bigold, my pennies worth of advice. By the looks of your bikes position im guesing your "scrunched up" and putting presure on your lower spine.. Id put your stem as high as you can (possibly using a slight riser )and get one at least 2cm longer (what length is it now?).Its a guees but an educated one.

Nice bike.
When you get some cash you can upgrade the groupset to something superior, such as Xenon.

and it's not the pressure on the spine I'd be worried about

Lol, I wouldnt worry bout presure elswhere with bigold,,,judging by his "tell it how it is" (he sai`s)approach on the forum I`d sugest he`s possibly numb from the neck down! (tounge firmly in cheek)

your tongue is going nowhere near my cheek! Thanks for the advice guys, the position is actually pretty comfortable to me NOW. Started with a flipped stem that was only 80mm(what can i say im an odd shape!) And yes that is now only 100mm. Cant stretch out owing to the neck injuries and the resultant pressure. Although i may well go to 110 if the flexibility continues to improve. Riding that bike hard gives me no pain or discomfort up to 3 hours and if im going longer i go with the other CR1 which had an uncut fork so sits 12mm higher at the front end. My back WAS very rounded but i can comfortably ride a 25mile TT on clip ons in the aero position on this bike so no real issues. The stem issue has improved over the last 12 months and no doubt will continue to do so but im not gonna push it to look pretty or gain a few watts at this point. Health is more important!
