Inspired by the forward planning shown by Kieran and BOSH.
Now the days are short and the weather is harsh, are you keeping up your motivation levels by making plans for 2009?
What are your plans and goals for the coming year?

Ride around a bit. Hopefully at the front right at the end.

Goals for '09 - having lost 52 pounds in '08 to round it off with 10 more! - continue with flexibility and core stability improvements( must be objective) - Race more consistantly and gain my first points in a road racing obtaining cat 3 licence - Go sub 25 mins on P.829 ( a local undulating and testing 10 mile tt course - current best as a lone TT 26.15)
There its in black and white now. No choice but to achieve them. 3 out of 4 would be an accceptable strike rate. Mental note to self keep your head, over achieving this year does not gurantee success next. (but hopefully another useful 8000 miles will!)

Nope. That'd be a complete and disheartening waste of time. Over the past few years I've come to realise that life controls me rather than vice versa!!

Not made any plans for next year.. trying to keep to my plans for this year, with no luck
Whats happened to the usual cold dry winter.. ever since i bought my new winter kit it hasn't stopped raining. Had to use the turbo this weekend ,and i'm no fan of indoor cycling... i get bored too quickly ..and my heart rate monitor suddenly died halfway through my session today..

Well my plans for 2009 started 3 weeks ago, Copied El-Cids earlybirds idea of getting out every morning while there is still a bit of daylight. I rebuilt my good bike for next year already so the winter is free to drop a stone in weight using a nice mixture of a 15kg winter bike which hurts up hill, turbo training, rowing and weight training...oh and eating less!! All this is to knock an hour off my SUS08 time and the same off my Ullapool time which should be easy as long as I don't crash again!! Plus I don't have my old Landrover any more so with the new one I can go anywhere in the country sportive hunting...oh TWA it's another 4x4...can you hear the Bolivian vampire flying squirral crying yet Well Sly invited me to the DLMC and I'm still thinking about that one for the battle of the homebuild bikes! Oh and I'm cycling the west of scotland in the summer too, touring but travelling very light and smelly!!

Having spent a large part of 2008 toying with the idea of making a return to racing, I've decided to stick to touring and leisure rides so motivation not really a problem. Quite fancy a tour of North West Scotland, might even give those Sportives a go!

I entered the Hell of The Ashdown Forest to keep me riding over the Winter.
Probably.
Though I got wet, muddy and cold yesterday, appalling weather.

I've entered Tour of Flanders sportive, so that's the first one. Then to get ratarsed in the evening before watching the proper cyclists do it for real the following day.
Maybe Marmotte - not decided. Possibly the Etape
I'm enjoying the sportive phenomenon, so 5 or 6 UK sportives also. Might try some I've not done before.
Then I have an idea that I will do some proper racing. Might do a few TTs, then move onto some road races. I'm not young, but I really want to win something, to get my hands in the air. Not sure how this goal will be achieved, but getting fitter and having a go will be a good start. Then I'll take it from there.
Bike will be coming on holiday as well. A week in France in May, possibly Provence, then two weeks in Tuscany in August. Mrs Cid to finalise all details.
Oh, also my mate Gizzajob is possibly entering us into a 3 day RR in N.Ireland, so thats an incentive too.
So reads the last will and testament of overweight , heavy drinking daft old fool (and cycling enthusiast)

Enter an evening club tt on a wet day - hardly anyone will turn up and you'll have the best poss chance of getting those hands up........ only thing is there won't be anyone there to see you do it

Oohh putting things down in print is a bit scary - I'll have to lose this post if it all goes horribly wrong......
Hell of the Ashdown, Fred Whitton, Ronde Picarde. Ride a sub 24min 10, ride close to an hour for a 25, ride up my local hill in less than 6 mins, find time to go out on more club runs instead of doing most of my riding solo during the week.
That should keep me busy...

Mine's easy too. I want to
1. finish the etape, and be in the top third of women. I have no idea if this is a realistic aim or just a joke. If the latter, then I hope noone who knows me reads this
2. become better at descending, so that I don't experience that bloody annoying phenomenon of having everyone I passed on the way up zoom past me on the way down
3. As a milestone on the way to (1), do a proper century in the spring and not feel dead after it

I haven't raced for 2 years and for the last 2 years that I did I really didn't take it all serious. 3 months ago I hadn't ridden for 18 months othe than very occassionally. I brought a bike to start riding to work in the summer and I've got the bug back.
My aim next year is the 3 peaks. I've ridden it before. I plan to break 4 hours which will be a considerable PB. I also aim to raise £10k for charity whilst doing it.
Other than that I have no definate plans yet but I will definately do some racing again - as much as anything I will need some intermediate targets rather than aiming for one 10 months away. Hopefully hold my own in some 4th cat events and B cat track league, and if the fitness is there I fancy trying to break 25 minutes for a 10 and 1.05 for a 25 (not quite all time pb's but better than I managed in the last decade), but only if the fitness makes it seem plausable. That'll be on a standard roadbike with clip on tri-bars.
And if I'm running for training for the peaks I fancy a crack at something different, a half marathon maybe, or a duathlon.

have to say the Hell of the ashdown in target for early 2009 - and if i make it through ...just maybe a few more southern based sportives - time and family allowing....then more consistant rides
and of course no more mishaps with bikes, equipment etc
may all ride well daveno7
