I dont know really, I just use engine oil, applied when I feel like it.

Not much help, but that's what I do.

Do you dry your chain of water before adding lube?

Rusty Chain is a good name for a drink but what would be in it I wonder?

That sounds... a poor drink.

How about, er, Cognac and er, nothing, a bit more classy.

Has anyone got any better ideas for chain lubing than what I do?

There must be, I've read endless magazine pieces advocating this lube and that, although 50W/20 (apologies if thats the wrong number) works for me.

I use Finish line Pro Road lube, no rust problems ever, Wuv is right enough, engine oil, 3 in 1 oil will do fine, grease is too thick lubricate the rollers in the chain...stick with an oil, make sure the chain is clean..when out in the winter wash the chain down with clean fresh water even on the drier days to get rid of traces of rock salt put on the road...it will eat chains!

Hmmm it cleans well but not a hard wearing lube, I hate a chain that makes that tinkling sound when on the go!! Silence is golden!!

I've used several lubes in the past, but have gone back to White Lightning original(not the strong cider ).If the roads have been a mess after rain or whatever, the bike gets a thorough wash(car shampoo) dry off the chain as much as poss. then lube with the afore mentioned, never rusted yet!!
PS that SQUIRT lube tested in the comic looks not bad ?, perhaps a tad expensive

Hang it on the back of the shed door, drown it in WD40, wipe down, repeat, leave to drain while cleaning the cassette & chainset, drown in gearbox oil (cheap from Halfrauds), wipe off, re-install. Once a week & additional oil between if needed.

rub down and a coating of 3in1 after each ride, wipe off excess and bingo!

works well for the chain too

Check the length. The pins are supposed to be at 1/2" centres. If a foot length is over by 1/16" bin it. That way the cassette will be re-usable. If it goes past that the cassette needs changing, at +1/8" the chainrings start to suffer.
