Well since you already use Vittoria tyres I would say go for the Vittoria Rubino pro folding tyres, I never have a problem with them, easy to fit, light, tough and good for 2000 miles if you rotate them..and cheap http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/productdetail.asp?productcatalogue=VITTTYRF550

Michelin Speedium - cheap as chips (saw them at £5.95 the other day), tough, hard-wearing and reasonable grip.

I agree with the Mich Speediums..i used them through the worst weather last winter and the grip was brilliant.
The only downside is no puncture resistance and i kept getting thorns through them.
Trying a Lithium on the rear this year.. not quite as cheap ,but has puncture resistance ..i'll know if it's any good after a few rides down my local thorn covered lanes..

I use the same tyres all year round. I find that the rubber quality on good race tyres has better cut resitance than the cheap & cheerful tractor tyres on many of the so called heavy duty jobs.

I take the light bike off the road about now and ride either the tourer or a hack winter iron. Either 28C Schwalbe Marathons or Panaracer Paselas in 32C. Marathons have better grip in slimy conditions, the Paselas are faster and more P* resistant. Marathon Plus are bombproof but weigh a ton, fine for winter training!

WUVERYLEY!!!!!!!
you are hereby banned from ever talking about tyres/punctures ever again. a few months ago you mentioned them, and the very next ride i got a puncture. here again you have mentioned them, and today i got a blow out!! fixed it at side of road, used useless pump to put in about 60psi, got home rechecked the tyre, pumped it up fully, and must have nicked the new tube in the process!
2tubes with holes in them in the space of 40mins!! if you ever mentions tyres again i may need your address to send you the bill for a bumper pack of innertubes
you are clearly the evil puncture penguin and have snared me thrice already!
go pick on someone else!
