German Cycling
      #39606 - 16/11/2008 11:10

I see the German Parliament is threatening to lower the funding it approves to the German Cycling Federation, mainly in light of Schumachers positive for CERA during the Tour. Now his lawyers are trying to say that the contract he had for next season has to be honoured.
What a back sliding cheating [****].
So far, because of his selfish actions, a whole pro team has gone down the pan, with the loss of about 50 jobs, the Tour of Germany is, or will be, cancelled and sponsors are pulling out of German cycling like there is no tomorrow, and he says he is being badly treated.
It beggars belief.
I used to think the peloton was the preserve of hard men, but it seems now to be the preserve of big girls blouses ( no discrimination intended ladies) who cant ride to the shops without chemical assistance.

What gave you that impression.

Its ok for peeps to say "well he will have to serve his two year suspension" but what about the other pros who have lost there jobs cos of his selfish actions? What about the poor swannies and mechanics who do it mainly for the love of the sport and get paid very little? All out of work.
If I was one of his ex team mates I would track the little s**t down and, ahem, have a few words with him.

Is Shoemarhar a Mekon? that explains a lot.

Back on subject, there is an odd appreciation of cycling in Germany, it seems to me. It may be that Germans only follow the sport, when Germans like Ulrich, Zabel, Kloden, Schumacher are doing well, but when they're doing badly (or behaving badly) the German public and Business don't want to know.

Perhaps that would be the case here, if we had some very good riders for a few years. There might be a more general interest in cycling, but when it fell apart, the sport would be left to us, the people who have always liked it.

The rise in interest in cycling in Germany, spelt the end for the Leeds/ Rochester classic, whose UCI date was nicked by Hamburg. Who knows, maybe we'll get the World Cup (Protour) race back!

A bit like Americans, then, who take it to the extreme of only following the exploits of one particular rider?

Norman Foster is British (born in Manchester) and responsible for designing (amongst many) the Swiss Re building (aka London Gerkin) and the Milau Bridge in France.
