Could this be caused by the wheel being on to tight

I hope you're meaning FORKS, Creaking folks is usually just their age!! Anyway the wheel being too tight shouldn't cause creaking, try it being less tight if you think that's the problem, my first guess would be the headset needing greased or replaced, also a touch of grease on the skewer and on the dropouts where the wheel mounts will eliminate any noise there, If it is none of the above check your forks for cracks or faults...steel forks will bend and you will feel them failing but carbon go with a bang...normally when you don't need it i.e breaking hard...snap!!! BANG and that's you out for 2 months at least!!! Gosh I'm cheery today!

As an extra, check your handlebars for fatigue cracks. The sound is the same, and if it breaks at a T junction in traffic or over a bump at speed.....
Yes it happened to me once, it won't be allowed to happen again!

Simple
1. Undo the allen bolt on the top of the headset,
2.Remove the cap,
3.Slacken the stem bolts and remove the bars and stem in one lump,
4.Take off all spacers and plastic bits and place them on a shelf in the order they came off
5.The the forks should slide out of the headtube, if not a tap with a mallet or rubber hammer(block of wood and hammer will do) will move them,
6.Clean all dirt and gunk out the tubing, off the bearings and fork stem ,
7.With a fine nosed grease gun(or time and a twig) push as much grease into the bearings as you can, also put grease on the crown race(Tapered washer on the bottom of the stem of the forks)
8.Wipe off any excess grease
rebuild reversing the order everything came off.

9..job done!!
