Gear ratio for fixed
      #39633 - 16/11/2008 18:19

I recieved a fixed gear from my friend today and it has a 69 inch gear ratio. My question is, is it better to use this ratio, a higher or a lower one?

It's too personal for anyone else to decide for you. How does it feel, high, low, or about right? It's easy to put right by trial and error based on riding the thing.

From memory I used to ride 72 - 74" on fixed.

I use around 69-72" but it can be a struggle going into the headwind's we get in this part of the world, you can only try it out and see how you feel with it.

66" around hilly south Wales between end of season and Christmas for YHA weekends and general pub (sorry, club) runs and back onto gears after Christmas.
