I put a new chain on yesterday, I have been splashing out!
The worn one I took off was 111 links, so I shortened the new one to that length, obviously I had worked out that's what I needed in the past, and the chain has been fine.
I was wondering what everyone else does, do you carefully analyse chainring/ sprocket sizes, and then shorten accordingly, or just stick a 114 chain on, unmodified?

Wuv a link is the bit between 3 pins, not each bit of chain, so 111 links is 55 ish, Best just use a chain length calculator like this one...Oh I never fit a full length chain. http://www.machinehead-software.co.uk/bike/chain_length/chainlengthcalc.html

Kept the links cut off from old chains and line them up with the new chain to see how much to cut off.Using a Mavic chain all the time will eventually get a new chain from the off cuts!!

Thanks for the link(what a pun), that is really useful.
Chains are sold as 114 links, usually, not 57, in a spirit of disagreement.

Sorry, bfergie, possibly a link/inch confusion going on there.
