Hi All
Riding home tonight my gears started slipping about every third rotation, it was fine on the way to work and just started on the way home and its every gear in the cassette, tried shifting no difference. I'm sure its a small adjustment but as it says above mechanical moron so can you help please, remember use small words
Cheers

Unusual ALL gears are slipping, normally either the highest or lowest gear will sit in place when the rest slip, usually this is fixed by adjusting(twiddling) the tension(tightness) in the cable(metal wire/string stuff) On the down tube(Sloping Bit of frame) and on the rear derailleur(thingy with 2 small cogs) there are barrel adjusters(plastic coated metal doo daas!) turn the crank(pedals) with the rear cassette(bit with lots of cogs) in 4th or 5th gear, twiddle the barrel adjusters to tighten the cable by a turn or two which should make everything run smoothly and index(click into the right cog) properly. Also check your chain for damage! Simple enough???

You just posted before me glad its sorted this might be useful to anyone searching this thread for a similar problem
start by putting chain on smallest sprocket and large chainring.
Turn the cranks and adjust the rear mech cable adjusting screw out (anti-clockwise) until you can just hear the chain trying to move onto the second smallest sprocket. Then carefully back it out until the noise just goes away. Alternatively you can use the front cable adjusting screw on the frame to achieve the same result.
That should be set now for all the cassette sprockets. Run the chain up the cassette to the largest sprocket and make sure each click puts the chain cleanly onto the next sprocket up .
If the chain won't go onto the biggest sprocket you may need to adjust rear mech limit screw to allow the rear mech a little more travel so the chain shifts far enough to get cleanly onto the biggest sprocket but doesn't try to jump off the back into the spokes .Make sure you adjust the correct limit screw for the biggest sprocket not for the smallest sprocket
