I have recently inherited two bikes:- Lotus 110 sport with Mavic tri spoke carbon wheels and Dura ace groupset, in excellant condition. A Hotta with a Camppagnolo Record GS (no wheels. I have not been able to find out a lot about the bikes and hardly anything on the Hotta. Does anyone have any information? how much are they worth? Thanks

Hi I have done some research and can see that the Lotus 110 is the road version of the Lotus80? which was the track bike used by Boardeman in the Olympics, I dont think they made many of them and have not seen any for sale. The Hotta is made down in Paignton I think, it looks like the Lotus but the back only has a seat stay wher the Lotus only has a chainstay, again there is an Olympic connection but I can not find out anything and again have not seen any for sale. The Lotus seat pillar is an integral part of the frame and is too big for me, but the Hotta has an adjustable seat pillar. Do you know anyone who can stretch my legs (and remove a few Ibs) Glyn I am originally from South Wales and used to ride for Acme Wheelers but now live in Leicestershire Thanks Nigel

HI I dont really have any history, they were a neighbours bike who died age 38, I beleive he represented England on the Track but it must have been about 20 years ago, his name was Mark Palmer and his name was on the frame. I have been restoring them because they had been left in a garage. I have been having a problem with the gears, just put a new Dura aAce chain on but I dont think it will index with the block thats on it(block not cassett) As I said it has Dura Ace leavers and mech but I think the block is a Sachs (8 speed. Are these compatible? Thanks

Have you put a 10 speed chain on a 8 speed block? You probably need an eight speed chain.
Mark Palmer sounds familiar, and if he had such nice bikes, someone on here may have heard of him.

Thanks for reply, I have put a 9 speed chain on the bike. It meshes with the sprockets but just having difficulty getting one click to one gear. Levers are for 8 speed, so a bit puzzled

I would say the spacing between the cogs on the Sachs cassette is a different spacing than a Shimano 8 speed cassette so the shifters wont be pulling the rear mech far enough per click or too far per click. Where the cable clamps to the rear mech,if the mech is not moving far enough AND the cable is on the outside edge of the bolt it's worth a try attaching the cable to the inside edge which will pull the mech further per click but will make shifting slightly stiffer. The opposite will also work IF the mech is moving too far AND the cable is on the inside edge of the bolt. I hope this makes sense to you!

Have you fitted the cable to the correct side of the clamp on the rear mech? That had me puzzled for a while when I fitted new cables to my 8-speed Record setup.

But you gave more information to help him decide if he had fitted it the wrong side of the clamp! I'm too lazy a typist to go into too much detail.

Hi. Thanks for the info I will try changing the cable route and see what happens. I have had another look today! and what seems to happen is if I make the cable short enough to get into bottom (largest rear cog) then the cable is to short for the mech to go into top (small cog), if I screw in the cable adjuster to shorten the out cable the mech will drop the chain into the bottom sprocket but will not pull it into the top sprocket
