Was going to post this on one of the other threads but did n't get round to it.
Such a good morning this morning that I doubled my normal one hour at 6.30am, and enjoyed 33m up scenic Wharfedale. Pic of Winter bike upon arriving home

I hope link works.
Its a titanium frame, carbon forks, full m/guards, Ultegra. Has pannier rack braze ons for when I get finally get time for some touring. Yes its a triple! Ideal for my riding, combined with a faily close ratio cassette. 90% of the time its in the 39 ring, big ring has good gears for a burn up, baby ring ideal for mega climbs.
To the right of the bike pic, you should be able to see two pics of old warhorse, Cacophony. I allowed him to briefly wear the Prediction League Winners Woolly Hat. He was very jealous.
Back to winter bikes. I think an improvement on my current set up (which is very good) would be a similar titanium frame - light, no rust, does n't need cleaning often, quite fast etc - but with Rolhoff 10 speed hub gear, top gear equivalent to 52x13, bottom gear equivalent to 39x29, the rest of the gears equally spaced in between. This type of gearing would be good for winter riding - simple chain with no slack, robust, easy cleaning, no duplication of gears, or double changing needed. I would also have disc brakes on an ideal winter bike, much more effective.
I think this bike would still be pretty light.

Nice bike, I see you like lights.
Does Cacophany ever appear in focus, or is he merely a spectre?

I remember you mentioning your ideal winter bike at Ullapool...you should have used your winter bike that day!! I would think with disc brakes and the rolhoff gears would make an ideal winter bike, I guess you would use it a lot. Any weight gain is irrelevant since it is a training bike after all, It may be slower but you will spend hours less maintaining it so more time on the road!

Decent bike still hung up looking sorry for itself since Ullapool, bfergie. You put me to shame, yours has been resprayed, regreased and reassembled, mine has n't even been cleaned.
On a positive note, looking forward to meeting my cycling chums in the pub tonight where we are due to talk about things to do in 2009. And Cacophony says he is going to make an announcement to his mates, so I await with baited breath.
