Cool one23 1000 extreme bright light

Got one of these from Kirkcowan cycles last week - they posted this out in 24hrs for me too, it's a good buy!!!!

Rode with it tonight and for well under £100 you won't need anything else. Light case is compact and well manufactured, battery is small and light and is housed in a neoprene case that velcro's to the top tube. Light comes with a charger, headlight strap and extension cable if you want to out the battery in a pocket instead of on the bike.

Only niggle is the operating sequence, but I'll get used to that - it starts up on full beam, quick press on the button on back of light puts it to low, another press to flash mode, press again and it goes off - So when going from low to high you need to press it 3 times and have a second with no light.

Brightness? Hell yeah! So bright the moon crapped itself and went into hiding behind a cloud tonight..... Beam spread? Plenty enough for road riding and has a brighter centre point that is wide too. Easily bright enough for off road, lasts 4.5hrs on full beam.Charger has overload protection and an led that tells you when it's charged.

For about a quarter of the price I paid for a Lupine light a few years ago, I now have a much brighter light with a better beam pattern that lasts four times longer. Recommended.
    Heading into a personal headwind....

I just bought one of these lights and it appears to be very good value for money. I have a question about the battery light indicator sequence though. The manual says: blue-green-red from full charge to low charge. However, mine runs: green-blue-red, no big deal really but is the manual wrong or is my light a bit 'special'?

These seem to variants of the Cree T6 lights available on ebay from our chinese friends or from 7dayshop in the UK.

You may want to investigate the benefits of a freznel lens. Available from ebay for around £4-5.

    Big discussion here

The big problem with the ebay imports has been they have a habit of going on fire when charging!...apart from that they are great. I don't know what issue folks have with the lenses on the lights, they give a great range and spread...car headlight power and if you worry about blinding oncoming traffic..tilt them down. The big danger is when helmet mounted...you tend to look at oncoming cars and that's not good!

Re: one23 1000 extreme bright light

I have two lights that are similar to this design, one has a CREE XML T6 and the other a SSC P7. There were reports about overcharging batteries but for me the bigger irritation is that while they use the same battery packs they have slightly different connectors between the light and battery. So I need to use the right charger and I can't take one light and two batteries for a long ride.

I have used wide angle lens on the lights so that the light beam resembles the back of the Millennium Falcon rather than a conical beam. The benefits are:
    1. Offroad on twisty singletrack is better lit when the light is bar mounted.
    2. Onroad it pushes the light down and sideways, away from oncoming drivers eyes.

As Bfergie says, the bigger issue is when using them helmet mounted while on the road.

I have another question about my new one23 light.
When fully charged the green indicator light is on, however, on high beam this changes to blue within less than 5 minutes; even straight after a full charge. This seems strange to me. It runs on blue for a few hours, I not tested it exactly. However, the manual says up to 4.5 hours on high beam so I wouldn't expect the light to go from green to blue within 5 minutes. Do these batteries require several charge/discharge cycles before they work properly? Cheers

Yes they do need a few charges, I find 4-5 charges ..5 minutes seems a bit quick though, if it continues, take it back to the shop and they should replace the whole unit or the battery pack.
