I'm thinking of heading to the Pyrennes next year to watch 2 stages of the TDF, has anyone got any experience of camping next to the race. Are there any groups that travel to the TDF?
I would also like to go see some of the Tour De France stages, but, not having the experience of driving from the UK to France; and then finding my way to the French Alpe's. I'd be interested to hear of others experiences when going to follow the TDF.
How to begin? what are the requirements for driving in France, Insurance, Breakdown Cover, Lights (headlights to alter?) what is necessary? and places to stay? I'd want to take my bike.
I've followed it the last two years (only for a week each), booked campsite about 20 miles away from a departe or Arivee and cycled in, there are loads of campsites and plenty of hotels, motels around the Mountian stages, i agree with everything above, just start researching which ones you want to see and search after you have decided on some stages.
I've driven through France to Spain going through the mountains, the drive is relatively simple but the requirementsfor the car are not what you'd expect. For starters you need Hi Viz jackets, breathalyzer, spare bulbs etc. The AA are a good source of info for driving in France. I think there is a lot of researching to be done, would like to find a campsite with like minded race goers. I'll keep posting.
Went to Road Worlds through France, Belgium & Holland.
Called into Motor World. They had a list of all the legal requirements for various European countries (they differ) and all those items were in stock.
