For thos who don't want to wear a helmet

Just seen this on a Stephen Fry program (although this clip is from routers) it a helmet that you wear just as a collar so nothing on your head but as soon as you crash it inflates over your head. It's really impresive, i always like to wear my helmet but sometimes on a leisure ride it's nice to feel the wind blowing over your head (alas no longer through my hair) but still have the protection of a helmet.

The concept is innovative; but can only be used in one accident, then needs replacing, it's also very expensive.

I doubt it would work on the mountainbike, jumps, bouncing over rocks etc are bound to set it off!!

it's new technology, imagine how small and effective it could be, say, built in the collar of your jersey so you wouldn't know it was there. Aren't you supposed to replace your normal helmet if you have a crash.

I like it,and agree that after a crash you would/should replace a normal helmet anyway.

One thought though.. if they can inflate the 'helmet',i wonder how much more it would take to inflate the jersey as well and help to save bruising/broken bones when you fall off..

Nice innovative idea to protect the head form crash but this protects us from very hard rocks and other solids.

Helmets are compulsory here in Australia. I agree though - it is nice to have wind in your hair. I ride to work sometimes and often wish didn't have to wear a helmet doing so as arrive with horrendous 'hat hair' most mornings. Leave a hair straightener and blow dryer in desk draw to combat.

Hate wearing them although I purchased a KOI Star Lite SL 180, apparently one of the lightest helmets on the market, thinking if I got a light one I will not know I'm wearing it, so much for that idea! They are compulsory here in Spain and rightly so as they do safe lifes. I still go out though more times than not not wearing one. The Guardia Civil don't seem to be bothered!
