    Advice Rx'd

I have in some way been involved in competitive sports since the age of 6!!!!

i have done ultras/adventure race series/early MTB leagues/tri's and much more. But at the ripe age of 44 I would like to try pure cycle racing. Can anyone point me in the right direction? A few things though, I can't join a cc as my life does not allow me to offer commitment to it. I do have all the training time I need, sounds contradictory I know, but it's true. So commitment is 100% when it comes to training. I weigh 78kg with BF% of around 9-10%. And I am fit for purpose. The mistake I don't want to make is one i have made before and that is enter something to 'easy' as people think you have done it deliberately to look better than you are, which is not the case. I would rather aim to high and be last but get lessons from it.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

You don't need to join a club to race as a BC private member. You will have to start at the bottom level though. You can't enter races above that level unless you have competed at that level successfully.

Of course you could TT and beat everyone but that's difficult to do without joining a club. It's quite possible to be in a club and only turn up for races.

At your age there are LVRC and TLI (regardless of age) races available, no need to join a club to compete but you would need licences. Where are you based ?
...for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

    Derby/Notts border.

@wurverly, TTs I find ridiculously boring, one of the reasons I stopped doing Tri, although it took me 22yrs to stop, lol.

i don't know why after all this time, but around 3yrs ago I started just solely riding my bike and I have become a bit of a bike bore and I must at least experience one season of racing.

    thanks guys.

    www.tlicycling.org.uk
I suspect North Midlands but it's a matter of how far you want to travel to race, £10 for a years licence and variable race fees, it's £6 for a Lincs League race.
    www.lvrc.org
Probably region 5 (North & East Midlands) but possibly region 7 (S.E Midlands and East Anglia) again it depends where you wan to go, £20 licence and £10 per race (usually).

No need to apologise for that, me duck. It is in fact a prerequisite for here.

Thanks to johnstrac, the lvrc looks to be the one for me.

How strange. Im same age, same weight, same thought. Not so mad about cycling if its below 5 deg. I decided to get British Cycle Race licence and 1st race Saturday at Darley Moor Derbyshire. My biggest worry is messing someone else's race up. I just decided to give it a go WHY NOT...
