    Sybrandy crash and recovery

I've e-mailed this letter to the comic twice as a letter of thanks but its not been published yet:

I was interested to read of Wouter Sybrandy's road to recovery not least because of my own serious head injury back in August due to a crash in a local league race. And yes, the helmet probably saved my life but did not prevent the double fracture in my skull. The road to recovery has involved two major operations and a slow road with help from wonderful physiotherapists and a devoted wife for support at home Has anyone else suffered problems with balance after a head injury - that is the slowest thing to improve, something that you take for granted on your bike.and a bit of a worry because I certainly took my balance for granted as you do.

I need to thank profusely the generosity of all the local cyclists and clubs who donated money for me to get fresh kit such as a new helmet so THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH and especially for all the good wishes as well,[including you again Laura!]
    yours faithfully

Good to hear you're up and about again, I was in that race but we never knew things were as serious as they were until later.
...for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Glad to see you're on the mend, but don't rush it Hawker. My wife had a serious head injury several years ago - her helmet saved her too. She suffered loss of balance, fatigue and memory loss. It was probably a year before she was back to normal.
Anyway, it's easy to underestimate how much, and for how long it can affect you. There is always the Headway Charity if you need some help or advice.
    Good luck with it.

Good to hear the helmet saved your life; and I'm sure you'll make a full recovery. Don't rush the process though, take it easy; and you'll be back on the bike in no-time.
