    Hamstring Tendonitis issues

    Hi
This is my first post on here and hoping to get some advice/reassurance on an injury I seemed to have picked up from the bike. I think having the saddle too high has led to Hamstring Tendonitis. I've had an ultrasound scan which didn't show up any cysts or tear and my bike fit is now sound but I'm still getting pain in behind the left knee after about 15mins of riding. I can continue at low power but if I push it at all it gets worse. A physio told me that if the pain was OK 24hours after riding then I could continue training but just to take it easy. Its driving me mad not being able to train hard and was wondering how long it might be before I shake off the injury. Does anyone have any experience of this type of injury and what helped/made things worse?

    Re: Hamstring Tendonitis issues

I had it mate, and it is one of those injuries that needs rest to heal, mine took almost a year to go. I kept training, but it was difficult to keep it in check. I upped my swimming / stretching etc even did Pilates!!! I kept off pain meds so I could control the output etc.
not what you wanted to hear, but with intelligent training and rehab work it will go.

Two things - Firstly as Cycling Athlete says, it needs time to heal, and stretching will help after it's better. As cyclists we tend to shorten our hamstrings.

Secondly, and more importantly you need to find out what caused the issue - You suspect bike fitting and you may well be right. Best place to get that sorted is your local bike shop, or even better get a proper bike fit done.

Whatever you do, don't be tempted to rush the recovery - Good luck and welcome to the forum!
