    Contador bonked ???!!!

Armstrong twitted that Contador bonked today. Maybe he did - I'm not sure. He was the first Astana rider to finish - the next one was Popovych, more than 4 minutes behind. I think the Astanas were so cocky that they thought all they had to do was put Alberto in the first group at 30km left and the rest was going to be easy. As a team, they should have at least got stuck in with the chasers, so that in case something silly happened, they could help him out. Just like the windy stage a few days ago, the Astanas should at least have one rider with Alberto if they want to make sure that any mishaps don't get punished too severely.
Mr Bruyneel will be fuming tonight.
A great lesson for Alberto - hopefully he'll take this lesson to Le Tour.

What a race though - Fantastic agressive riding from Sanchez. Brilliant.

Looked like it to me. You could see his legs trembling as he tried to get his rhythm back.
He certainly lost all his energy very quickly. Did he forget to eat? Or was it something else??

Sean Kelly said he looked like he bonked and Sean knows his stuff! Voigt, Schleck,Chavanel group made Contador do ALL the chasing of Sanchez until he blew, they knew what they were doing! Folk worry about Astana being bullies in the peloton, well I think Saxo Bank(CSC), Columbia and Caisse d'epargne are strong enough to fight them...especially when one Astana rider gets isolated with the likes of Voigt, Chavanel and Sanchez! To me Astana felt like a team in California with Leipheimer and Armstrong but not in Paris-Nice, they are not working like a team for Contador!

    Same team diferent name.

Why is it any team involved with Bruyneel never just loses to someone who was stronger on the day? There is always an excuse. Bonked, with teammates and team cars always available with food and drinks? Ha.
Perhaps he isnt a superman after all and just had a bad day after his big attack the day before.

It has happened to the best of us!

Armstrong wasn't saying anything new - though I do wonder what he really thinks? Yesterday I suspect he was worried about Contador's performance for the Tour.

Today, I wonder if there was a wry smile.....

He clearly looked like he had bonked as he slowed so dramatically, and also made no attempt to get on the back of the other riders who zipped past him; his legs were clearly gone. Then, after finishing, he hardly had the energy to get off his bike and downed a Coke* in one go - he was after sugar, no doubt about that.

Didn't sudden collapses in form virtually disappear during the EPO years?

Pehaps unpredictabe racing will become the norm now.
