    northern rock cyclone

done this ride for the second time last weekend, very enjoyable, very large turnout (almost 3,000) great weather, even managed to beat last years time by 9 minutes...great!
imagine my annoyance upon receiving an e-mail from the organiser advising me of the actions of certain individuals, who in their wisdom thought it ok to leave gates open when there was livestock around, also to discard their rubbish en-route, thus spoiling the countryside as well as annoying locals. apparently the organiser had to placate an angry farmer who had to hire extra farm hands to help gather in his livestock and ensure all gates were closed. He rightly pointed out that such actions could have an adverse effect on future events, comparing this to the etape caledonian.
Now we all know sportives aren't a race, and altho we do like to aim for a personal best, surely taking time to leave gates as you found them, and spending a few seconds to dispose of your rubbish, would not make much of a difference? Come on people actions like stated above will only alienate locals against holding these events ultimately resulting in them being banned altogether.

    here here
did this event for the 1st time and had a really enjoyable weekend. Was sad to hear the organiser say he questioned how worthwhile it was to organise these events when all he took was a barage of abuse (from those responsible in the 1st place presumably) when he drew the matter to the participants' attention.

He made a very valid comment saying that its this sort of behaviour that turns locals against cycling events and we all know what happened at the Etape Caledonia when the locals turned against us........

Thumbs up to the Cyclone organisation and long may it continue

Yep. I'm with you guys. Did the run for the first time. It was fantastic. Guys and girls up and down the country spend hours of their own time so we can enjoy a day, or in this case a whole weekend of cycling. Yet people are alway quick to critisise, but very slow to complement!

    Heres to next year :-)
